The Glow of Sun Beside Me/ Menu Plan Monday

How do we know it's summer?

Oh my dear Internet friends,
I have the living embodiment
of a fine sunny day
laying next to me on the bed,
whimpering in pain
and glowing like a radioactive
beached salmon.

Ah yes, indeed,
my dear Rob is burned to a crisp,
glistening with Solarcaine,
and glowing a nearly neon pink.

We were working out in the pool area today.
Fortunately, I was working on cleaning out the cabana.
I may have been surrounded by leaves, spiders and spider webs
and tons of wood shavings from wood bees,
but at least I was protected from the sun!

Rob was doing the weeding around the perimeter of the pool.
He had on a pair of swim trunks and no shirt.
The boy is just FRIED.
I told him a couple of times to put on sunblock
but he insisted he was fine.

Uh huh,
sure you are, honey. ;-)

I had put sunblock on the three kids.
Unfortunately, Chris got burned also,
though not as badly as Rob.
I'm not sure why, unless the sunblock washed off his skin
more rapidly than I expected.
Or maybe the 65 degree water he was in FROZE it off? Sheesh!

Chris swimming last June:

So, another summer starts....
the Margarita machine made it's first batch of frozen drinks.

the calendar is chock full of pool parties-
scheduled for almost every weekend of the summer,
swimsuits and towels hang to dry on chairs both inside and out.
The smell of chlorine lingers in the air
and I love, love LOVE the summertime!

Oh, this post made me so jealous!!! We so miss having our own pool. I love the first photo of Chris - I thought that's what you were going to say was the embodiment of summer. He looks like joy incarnate!

Poor Rob!! Sometimes they just won't listen, huh? Hope he feels better soon.

And Hershey Park? I love Hershey Park! I haven't been there since I was, like, 11 or something. How fun! You and Rob are such fun parents. Your kids are blessed.

Oh I'm jealous! I want to be able to jump in the pool right now.

One of my favorite parts of summer? The smell of sunscreen! Strange I know, but it always brings back so many fun memories.

Did you know that vinegar helps take away the pain of a sunburn? Yes, you smell like one huge pickle, but strangely enough, it works. Something not as odorific is a "tea bath"....brew some tea (really strong) then fill up the bath tub with cool water and pour in the tea...have the "radioactive beached salmon" soak for a bit...the tea does wonders for pulling out the "pain"!!!

and wait a gosh darn minute....YOU HAVE A MARGARITTA MACHINE?!?!?!? So...a really good friend would be sending me an e-mail RIGHT NOW telling me where she got that!!!!
:-D
debbie...and good friend in her own right to many!!!

Ow! Ow! Ow! Since I AM the whitest white girl on the planet (is "clear" still considered a skin "tone"?), I have had my share of moments lived as a radioactive beached salmon (where even air molecules hurt when they touch the skin). :D

Oh no! Poor Rob. I'm jealous though. Chris is swimming in 65 degree water.. and the air here is about that temp. I'm ready for summer. I wish I could come hang out in your cabana for awhile.

Can I tell you how jealous I am of your margarita machine? VERRRRRYYYY!
Hmmm, maybe I should ditch my original Father's Day gift and get Army one. I'm sure I'd, err, he'd love it!

How do you like your Margaritaville? My mom called and wants to buy us one as a gift, so I was wondering how easy it is to clean etc.
