One of the most surprising things
about being a parent
is discovering how often I am the student.
Growing up a bossy little girl in Houston, Texas
all I could imagine about being a parent
was the sheer joy of being able to throw out commands
left and right.
No one could tell me what to do when *I* was a grown-up, oh no.
I would have all the answers and I would be IN. CHARGE.
Yeah, it ain't like that. Not at all.
I wonder if I taught my parents as much about life as my kids teach me.
