Playing Catch up

Once again I lost my groove thing,
lost my mojo
and let the blog slide.
This has been a bad couple of months with that!

Let's try to play back up and catch up.

*This past week has been rainy, rainy, rainy. Today the sun is shining and it is a gorgeous sight to see. I can hardly wait to get out on the baseball field and watch Chris play.

Over the past week, we have gotten at LEAST three inches of rain, if not more. It is supposed to rain again tonight and tomorrow so the reprieve is glorious!

*With all the rain, we have sprung a leak in our basement. Unfortunately, the water is somehow dripping from under our living room floor at the edge near the foundation, which means that our newly-laid wood floors are wet underneath and buckling slightly. We know we have to have some grading done, waterproofing along with foundation but BAH!! This does not fit in our debt-free plans! So we are paralyzed about what to do.

*My darling Kate turned 14 last weekend!! It was a momentous day for some reason. I think because 14 is fully a teenager while thirteen felt like she was just dipping her toe in the water. 14 means high school is right around the bend. 14 means only four short years at home before college. 14 means only two years until she is DRIVING! 14 means about a year and a half before she is dating. Yes, 14 was a very big deal.

*For Kate's birthday, her big gift was two polo-style shirts. Why was this a big deal? Because on the shirts was the private school logo for the school she has been campaigning to attend for two straight years.

We have saved up enough for her to go, starting in ninth grade. She is also going to two weeks of sleep away camp, with thanks for contributions from be her grandparents and Aunt Beth and Uncle Dave. This is her first sleep away experience outside of family or very close friends so again, a BIG DEAL!

*The next month is going to be very, very busy. My mom is currently visiting. Kate and Chris are preparing to complete middle and elementary school, respectively, so there are all kinds of celebrations and festivities around that. Kate is confirmed at the end of May. My brother and I are traveling to Atlanta the first week of June.

*Trey just completed his first big school project: a Story Box. He did it on The Magic Treehouse and worked really hard. It is impressive what he can do when he sets his mind to it. I was really proud of him. As he gets older and is able to settle himself better, he is just going to blow us all out of the water.

*Chris got placed in all GT (gifted) classes for middle school. We bumped him down to Honors for Math so that is won't be too overwhelming. Very proud of my boy! He has also started private Sax lessons once a week.

Okay, so I think that is pretty much what has been up lately around here!

That is very cool! I loved Kate's expression when she was opening the shirts. And congrats to Chris for scoring into GT! That is great. And I think probably a good choice to not do GT math. I hate math. Wait, you already know that. lol Good going Trey! Tell your mother to post some pictures of your project.

You certainly have been busy. I was about ready to send out an SOS for you.

Happy Birthday to Kate - her face says it all. What a great gift. Enjoy the weekend. Happy Mother's Day!

Not blogging because you are busy with the good things in life is a wonderful excuse. Your kids are adorable and it's so exciting to hear how well they are doing. Don't fret about paying to fix your leaks... the biggest reason to strive for debt free living is so that you are able to absorb the nasty surprises of life without needing to file bankruptcy! It stinks that you are going to have to fix the floors AGAIN though.
