at least as far as I perceived it.
To me he seemed like the "Golden Boy"..
a good student, President of the Honor Society,
athletic, attractive.
I, on the other hand,
was by choice a poor student,
an athlete wanna-be but without the actual *skills*
and, well, let's just say that my transformation
from an ugly duckling to a swan
took a mind-bogglingly LONG. TIME.
As in, rumor has it that my father said to my mother
"She *WILL* come out of it... won't she??"
But, all the differences were leveled around the dinner table
on the rare occasion that the stars aligned and all was right with the world.
On those night, my father would tell Larry Landers stories.
To this day, I don't know if there truly was a Larry Landers.
There may have been a Larry Landers in real life
whose stories were greatly exaggerated and twisted
but either way,
we *loved* us some Larry.
Larry Landers was BAD.
He was a bad, bad boy.
He did awful things and said awful things.
Larry was a TROUBLEmaker
and Oh Lord, how we secretly admired Larry!
To hear of someone do naughty things
and then get caught and punished
(or NOT caught.. Just IMAGINE!)
our little minds and imaginations went wild.
I may have to come up with some sort of Larry Landers type stories
for our home.
We are getting awfully tired of the "Uncle David as a baby" stories!

Something I should think about too as we are approaching that age when friends become more influential in the decision making. My kids love hearing about when we were kids but of course we never took part in any Larry Landers-like activity. ;) Not me and definitely not G. Ha!
Poor David can't get supplanted by some no-name Larry!

Do you think your dad was really Larry Landers?
I'm totally cracking up--it's my story, too. A poor student by choice (that means we're actually geniuses) and an athlete wanna-be without the actual skills (we're too good for team sports). Laughing out loud, girl!!!!
