An Auspicious Start

Today starts about two weeks of havoc in my home.
We are having the old hardwood floors ripped out
and new hardwood floors put in
on the downstairs level.

While no doubt inconvenient
(this involves the kitchen, family room
and all the main level of the house
except the bathroom and hallway)
it will be gorgeous when it is done!

So, when I talked to the scheduler yesterday,
I set up for the men to come at 10AM.
The kids don't leave until 8:15
and then I needed to grab a quick breakfast
and take a shower.

The boys left
and I got things straightened up a bit
in preparation for the men coming.
Then, at 8:50, I went upstairs to shower.

You can guess what is about to happen...!

I brush my teeth,
get in the shower,
lather up my hair...

and the dog starts barking like CRAZY.

She barks like that only when someone is standing at the door,
ringing the bell.

CRAP!!!
Are you kidding me?!

I get the shampoo out of my hair quickly
while the dog is going berserk,
then step out and wrap a towel around myself.
I creep over to the window
(which thankfully is already partly open)
and call down:
"Um, hello. Are you the flooring guys?"

They step back from the house to look up at the window
and I shrink back even more.
I am dripping all over the carpet.

"You weren't supposed to be here until 10!"

They looked confused.
"No one told US that," they replied.

"Well, give me ten minutes and I'll be down.
I was in the shower!"

I step back in, wash my face and rinse my hair,
do a quick towel off and throw on clothes,
then run down to let them in.

This is NOT the way I wanted to start this project!

Yikes! The only time anyone ever shows up early or on time is when you're not prepared for them. Whenever I'm waiting for someone to deliver an appliance or whatever and have a say, 12-4 p.m window, they always show up at 5:30 or something like that!

p.s. Your window is open? What is the temp out there?

Of course that would happen. Murphy's Law. Hopefully you were able to get the rest of your shower in later today or at least you'll get one tomorrow. I'm sure you're enjoying your new floors!

I can't wait to see pictures of the new floor! Is this all because of the dishwasher leak?

LOL! That is something that would happen to me. Only you handled it way better than I would have! Can't wait to see the new floors!

That would totally have happened to me Leeann. It just never fails; as soon as I get into the shower or sit on the toilet, the doorbell or phone rings.

I kept meaning to ask you about your floors. Is the insurance paying for the entire job? Whats kind/color did you decide on?

LOL! You poor girl. I hate the whole dog barking while in shower scene. I guess it was helpful this time, though. We did new hardwoods last year and I love them, but man oh man was it a MESS!!! There was dust everywhere. I went with a very dark, NO SHINE this time, and previously had light floors with heavy gloss. I have to tell you, I adore the no gloss this time, just FYI.....
