Gmail's Custom Time

added later:
Okay, Gmail TOTALLY got me. I was completely fooled! Way to go, Gmail!
---------------------

So, Gmail has a new feature
that it unveiled today.

It is called Custom Time.

The idea is, that you can write an email
(or expense report,
or paper that you are supposed to email a teacher
or whatever)
and on it, you can adjust the time or date it was sent.

So, you can adjust it to a few hours earlier,
a day earlier,
a week earlier...
whatever you choose.

In other words,
you can procrastinate
or fail to do something,
and then you can LIE.

You can insist to your teacher:
"Yes, of COURSE I sent the report on time.
I have no idea why you didn't get it.
See, it says right here I emailed it last Wednesday!"

Or to your boss:
"I guess you missed my expense report...
it's right there in your inbox."

I am disgusted by this feature.
The only reason you would need to postdate an email
is to cover up
or avoid telling the truth about something.

"Use it carefully!" Gmail encourages:
only ten of these per user, per year.

Oh, Darn.

Gmail gets a big thumbs down on this one.

I thought it was an April Fools joke.

Don't feel bad, Leeann. I was wondering, "what the hell?" too! I am usually all over this "holiday" but this year I am just too out of it. Must be gettin' old!

I'm pretty sure it's an April Fools Day joke- Google likes to do stuff like that.

I would have been fooled too! Yesterday Spencer came home with a letter from the principal stating that his teacher had tripped during class and after composing herself for 20 minutes (the children were escorted out the room), an ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital. I was certain it was a prank - I questioned Spencer and he said she really did leave in an ambulance. I showed the letter to Sam and he took a lot of convincing that it was not a joke. She was okay, but Spencer compassionately said, "she cried like a 3 year old". I wish that was a joke! Who is the kid and where is my sweet little boy?

I fell for it yesterday too! And I pretty much had the same reaction as you. Glad it was just a joke! They got me.

Oh, that's too funny!!! My goodness, weren't you indignant!! I kinda thought it was cool (had it been true). I missed it, of course, since we didn't have internet on that day, but you totally nailed it. Someday someone will honestly come up with a way to do it - you just watch!
