Michael W. Smith's New Christmas CD

I love Christmas music.

Not so much the traditional music
like Nat King Cole or Andy Williams
but Christmas music like Barenaked Ladies,
Springsteen and Vince Gill.

Among the CDs that I always reach for
are Michael W. Smith's first Christmas album.
Not only have I enjoyed his music for years
and seen him in concert as a teen several times,
but I had the pleasure of meeting him in Nashville
and also attending Belmont Church one morning
when he previewed ("tested out") one of the
songs that would eventually appear on his Christmas album.

"All creation has a language,
words to say what must be said...."

So, I know my Smitty.

I was very excited to see a post on another blog,
"Rocks in my Dryer"
about receiving a free preview CD of Michael's new
Christmas album.

I hopped to it,
and received one in the mail.
I started listening to it immediately
and have been listening to it while we have been
decorating our house over the last week and a half.

The album is lush and elaborate.
You won't find something on a small scale here.
There are orchestras playing beautiful, rich music
and choirs singing (both adult and children).

The effort and time put into this album are very apparent.

The one area that I would "ding" it
would be that there doesn't seem to be enough
of MICHAEL on the CD.
This is obviously remedied easily enough,
by listening to one of his more traditional CDs.

I can say, without reservation, that this is a great album
to add to your collection.
It is a majestic and breathtaking tribute
to the birth of the King.
