I am an avid reader

and I always have been.

Many a day would pass in my youth,

me holed up in my bedroom

deep in a good book,

ignoring my mother's pleas to go outside

or play with a friend.

My BOOKS were my friends and we could go anywhere

without even leaving my room!

I have carried this childhood love of reading 

into my adulthood.

Of my three children,

Kate reads like I did and Chris is reading far more than he used to.

Trey is not yet as enamored of books but he is only 7

and reading is more of a task than a pleasure at that age.

I visit the library once a week on average

and my children look forward to those visits as well.

I was recently introduced to an online playground 

for bookworms like myself.

It is called Goodreads.

You can write reviews of books you have read,

give them star ratings,

and put them on virtual shelves-

ie: read, to-read, special ed, parenting etc.

You can make "friends" with folks you know

and see what THEY are reading.

You can explore other folks' shelves

and find book suggestions and genres 

that you didn't even KNOW about!
